Facial Thread Veins or Broken Veins (telangeictasia) are small, unsightlly superficial red veins that occur generally across the nose cheeks and chin. These broken veins occur when when the vein dilates and becomes larger and is then visible through the transparancy of the skin.
Facial veins may be hereditary or as a result of a variety of factors such as sun exposure, wind and extremes of temperature, The over use of steroid creams and certain auto immune conditions may also induce thread veins. Often the exact cause is unknown and may just be part of the ageing process or as part of a skin condition called Rosacae.
Facial thread veins are easily treated with Intense Pulse Light or Laser with minimal downtime.
How are thread veins treated?
The laser emits light that is readily absorbed by the haemoglobin in the blood vessels heating them to the point that they are destroyed. Following treatment the vessels quickly clear as the are reabsorbed by the body leaving litlle or no trace of the original lesion.
How many treatments are necessary?
It really depends on severity of conditon but generaly small lesions may clear in a single session. For general redness and Rosacae five or more treaments may be needed spaced 4 weeks apart.
How long do results last?
Immediately after treatment some veins will dissapear but may reappear a few days later but less visible. with further treatments these vessels will dissapear and are not likely to re occur. However if you have a tendancy to facial redness new vessels may appear in the future. Maintenance sessions may not be required for several years though as results are long lasting.
